Motivation of Study
In a modern society where globalization is advancing rapidly, all sorts of international corporations are actively playing their own roles. Hence, the management knowledge of international enterprises are becoming more and more valuable. Moreover, as a common global language, the role of English in international enterprises’ daily operation is unquestionably essential. Taking English-taught courses about global management when studying in RBS is worthy. For these reasons, I took Professor Namiki’s “Global Management” course.
Lecture Materials
No bought textbooks is needed, as the professor will dispense materials needed for each class. All materials are in English, and the lecture will be fully taught in English. Sometimes explanation by Japanese will take place depending on the student’s status of understanding. Materials are the printed form of Powerpoint slides of the lesson, as well as cases of enterprises.
Videos regarding international management and international enterprises will often be shown in the lecture. The videos’ origin are databases from highly respected universities (e.g. Harvard University), as well as well-known television broadcasters (BBC, CNN etc.).
Also, native English instructors have come to the lecture. He was an Australian instructor. Cases of global enterprises are explained and analyzed during his lecture. After the demonstration, students asked questions regarding the contents. The experience of having conversations with native English instructor was quite valuable – not only the oral and listening techniques of English would improve, but also about learning management knowhow.
Reflections
Every lecture I took possesses the similar teaching style of that of the foreign universities. The first reason is solely because it was completely taught in English. Secondly, the teaching style resembles that of the universities in United States. Mainly because Professor Namiki’s speaking and teaching style is similar to those in the English-speaking universities.
Personally, Professor Namiki assumed the role of professor in various universities in US for approximately 14 years, after acquiring the doctor’s degree in Texas State University of USA. Not only the quantity of knowledge is great, professor Namiki also possess rich experiences overseas, from which students would gain considerably.
